Icelandic Carrier Play Airlines Ceases Operations Effective Immediately

Play Airlines, the Icelandic low-cost carrier, has shut down operations effective immediately after nearly four years of operations. Its website sharing the blunt message "all flights are cancelled."

With thousands of travelers left to figure out trips to Iceland and elsewhere, and hundreds of employees suddenly out of work, lots of questions are being asked.

If you are stranded, move quickly. In instances of airlines shuttering operations, other carriers may publish "rescue fares" for people holding what are now useless tickets.

If you have a ticket on Play for a future date, your best bet is to contact your card carrier or method of payment. If you paid by credit card or debit card, ask your bank for options. Many banks will typically refund airline closures without a fight.
